Makes 4 servings

Pineapple Topping

  • One 8-ounce can crushed pineapple in natural juice, undrained
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon grated ginger
  • 1/4 teaspoon Chinese five-spice powder

  • 3 bananas, peeled and quartered lengthwise
  • 1 pint vanilla or coconut ice cream
  • 1/3 cup purchased chocolate syrup
  • Whipped cream for serving
  • 1/2 cup purchased glazed walnuts

  1. To make pineapple topping, combine all ingredients in a small saucepan. Place over medium heat and cook, stirring occasionally, until sugar dissolves and syrup thickens slightly, about 5 minutes.
  2. To assemble desserts: Divide bananas among 4 bowls. Top each one with 1 scoop of ice cream, one-fourth of warm pineapple topping, a few tablespoons of chocolate syrup, and a dollop of whipped cream. Top each dessert with one-fourth of the glazed walnuts and serve.
